Hyderabad: CtrlS Datacenters Ltd, a data center company, held its ground-breaking ceremony for its greenfield Edge datacenter in Odisha. Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister of Odisha, laid the foundation stone for the facility in a virtual ceremony held in the evening. The new datacenter CtrlS Bhubaneswar 1 will be located in the State’s capital.

Sridhar Pinnapureddy, Chairman, CtrlS Datacenters Ltd, said, “The State of Odisha is a fast-growing region in India, making it a strategic destination for CtrlS' ongoing expansion. We are excited to bring our expertise to the State. Built in Infocity, Chandrasekharpur, the datacenter will be easily accessible to both city centre, and its airport. The Infocity site is an innovation hub and home to a broad community of emerging technologies. CtrlS Bhubaneswar 1 will be embedded into a larger ecosystem, enabling the growth of data and infrastructure savvy businesses around the facility.”

Sridhar further stated, “We are thankful to the Odisha Government for extending all the support for our project. Large IT infrastructure initiatives such as Info Park, Info Valley, Infocity and IT investment regions are under development, giving a big fillip to the IT/ITES sector.”

CtrlS Bhubaneswar 1 is planned to be a 5 MW facility designed to serve hyperscale, government, and enterprise customers and will provide a range of hosting and cloud services. Phase-wise, the project would eventually scale as a hyperscale datacenter campus spread across 10 acres. The facilities will have all the sustainability features that CtrlS is known for.

CtrlS plans to invest over Rs 150 crore and create 110 jobs in Bhubaneswar in multiple phases over next 10 years. The company’s foray and expansion into the State will further boost the digital infrastructure ecosystem in the region.

Odisha is a key region for CtrlS as the State has a strong presence in core industries such as chemicals & petrochemicals, construction, electronics manufacturing, food processing, metal, mining & quarrying, sea ports and textiles. The State has also developed IT specific SEZs to push the growth in the sector.

CtrlS is on an expansion spree to set up a series of Edge datacenters in India, across tier-2 and tier-3 cities. The company currently operates such facilities in Lucknow and Patna. The plan is to set up over 20 Edge datacenters in the coming years.

Adoption of technology coupled with the launch of 5G is creating demand for capacity in more locations. This needs a reliable low-latency link (ensuring real-time access to data or applications) with high bandwidth to handle massive data flows, and storage closer to the devices at the ‘Edge’ of the network. Computing closer to where data is generated, companies are also able to improve their sustainability characteristics.
